John's new album is a double CD featuring an "acoustic" set and an "electric" set.
Who Is John Speziale?
John Speziale is a singer/songwriter residing in Stonington, CT. His songs, which have been described as "timeless… as if they've been around for a long time," are flavored by the folk, rock and roll, country and jazz music which he has enjoyed his entire life. His lyrics turn a mostly sympathetic (if sometimes darkly humorous) eye on the human condition.
Quickstar Productions has chosen John's song, "Mondo Condo" to appear on its CD, "Chill Out," a compilation of songs by East Coast acoustic acts. This CD will be available to fans soon on a first-come, first-serve basis. It will also be available to download. We'll keep you posted on the details. Stay tuned to this site for the release date announcement.
Singer/songwriter John Speziale's "Forest for the Trees" charted at number 69 on the "Neil Young Living with War" website…
John said that topical or protest songs, "are difficult to write well. It takes a lot of artistry to keep them from sounding whiney." Another problem is that what is current one month might not be the next. John thinks that Bruce Springsteen "does topical best, writing songs about our troubled times that contain a kind of poetry that transcends time."

The new album received a more or less tepid review in "The Noise," a Boston music zine. Oh, well. You can check it out at http://www.thenoise-boston.com/content/view/123/10/. While you're there also check out Rita and Lolita's column at http://www.thenoise-boston.com/content/view/124/10/1/3/ (Saint Paddy Whack) wherein a number of Boston area "luminaries" — including yours truly — recount tales of Saint Patrick's Days past.
Obama's historic victory signals a new, brighter direction for our country. Let's help to make it a victory over bad feelings as well as a victory over bad policy. Let's take the words of John McCain's very classy concession speech to heart, finding a common ground.
Thanks to those of you who commented on my blog. It's nice to know people actually read these things.

Thanks to everyone who helped my song "Forest for the Trees" top out at number 69 (out of some 2500 or more songs) on Neil Young's Living With War site. I have stopped checking the chart now, after, I admit, not being able to find it last week! We had a very good run, and I'm proud of its performance. I'm also extremely thankful to you fans who helped take this sincere and heartfelt song of mine so far. I hope you will keep supporting my efforts in the future.

It would be easy (and so pseudo hip) to dismiss the Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Brian Wilson as "lame." I mean, Hootie and the Blowfish playing the old surf-rock tunes? Sadly, they're not even second stringers any longer, are they? And a British children's choir singing "Love and Mercy," just to demonstrate, you know, that Brian's compositions are so hands-across-the-ocean universal and so, um, adaptable. Or something.
And Lyle Lovett performing "God Only Knows"… Well, wait. Nothing to mock there, actually. In fact, Brian himself praised this performance. Truly it was simple, pure and poignant.
Poignant. If you think about it, "poignant" is probably the best way to describe the entire tribute.
